Ladies and Gentlemen, dear music lovers,

it is a great pleasure to welcome you again to our Chamber Music Festival!

We all look forward to sharing intense ten days of music-making with you. This year's programme will include works of the great Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy whose young genius never ceases to fascinate me, as well as the 20th century great master Béla Bartók and his compatriots Zoltán Kodály and Ernö von Dohnányi.

The Festival's opening concert will present a mixture of early and contemporary music from Russia, North America and Europe. Through their masterly performances the unique Hilliard Ensemble has brought about a revival of early vocal music. I am happy to announce that they will be with us for the first time.

Also we will be hearing the first performance of a new work by the young Slovenian composer Vito Zuraj, written specially for the occasion. A light-hearted Programme III. with Viennese waltzes by the Strauss family is planned as well. The talented students of various Slovenian music schools and the Music Academy in Ljubljana will be performing at different open-air venues in the city.

It is always an inspiration to perform for our very special audience! The wonderful concert halls and churches of Slovenia with their splendid acoustics provide an ideal setting for the concert performances.

Wishing you all a lot of pleasure and genuine enjoyment of the wonderful chamber music repertoire!

Yours,

Radovan Vlatkovic, Artistic Director
